Big Spring Clean

Thanks so much to everyone that came along to our Big Spring Clean on Saturday 29 March.

It was wonderful to see so many people come along to help out and learn more about

Friends of Gyle Park.

What did we get up to?

  • We collected 7 enormous bags of litter

  • Our basketball court now has a first coat of paint

  • We repainted our noticeboards and covered up the graffiti

  • We tidied up our bike racks

  • We planted wildflowers

  • We signed up plenty of new members

Litterpicking

We had a great number of volunteers, including Friends of Gyle Park Members, Clermiston Litterati, David Lloyd staff and everyone who came along to help out on the day.

Did you know we have a monthly litterpick?

Painting

Basketball Court

Our basketball court needed a little extra attention and we worked incredibly hard to brighten it up. Thanks to all of our volunteers on the day and thanks to The Paint Shed at Chesser for helping us to obtain the paint in beautiful, bright colours.

The basketball court still needs an extra coat of paint, so look out for a follow-up call to our volunteers to help us finish up.

Bike racks

The bike racks by South Gyle station were rusting and a little overgrown so thanks so much to Karen for neatening them up and making sure they're protected from the elements for future!

Noticeboards

Our noticeboards had a bit of graffiti on them so thanks to Keith for taking the time to bring them back to their glossy state.

Wildflower Planting

Managing our wildflower meadow is a core part of Friends of Gyle Park's work and so it was great to have so many young people getting involved and helping Janis to plant wildflower seeds which we look forward to seeing flourish in the summer.

Have feedback?

As our first event of the year, we'd love to hear from you to let us know what you'd like to see more of throughout the rest of year.
